The Nelson-Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) – as part of Te Pūkenga – developed the Level 6, 15 credit NZQA He ara matatau SafePlus Assessor micro-credential for WorkSafe and ran courses funded by WorkSafe, under contract, between April 2023 and May 2024. NMIT has decided it will not be offering this course in future. 

WorkSafe is not seeking an alternative provider to train independent SafePlus assessors for the foreseeable future. This decision takes into account the record-high numbers of SafePlus-qualified consultants available to businesses, as well as WorkSafe's strategic priorities.

WorkSafe has funded a significant increase in SafePlus-qualified health and safety professionals over the last two years. Eighty-six consultants currently offer the SafePlus onsite assessment and advisory service, covering all parts of New Zealand.
